It's Been Awhile! Recap Time!

Oh hey hi! It’s been awhile hasn’t it? I posted once in October and twice in September. The last several months of 2023 have ramped up for me and I’ve been busy adjusting to and embracing so many things recently. Let’s dive into the recap for October and November!

  1. Hubby started his new job! He sailed through the training and is ecstatic about the company that hired him. It’s so rare to find an employer that truly cares about the employees so praise God for bringing this opportunity to our family. The other night he told me, “This is the first time in 17 years I’ve been stress free and actually enjoy heading into each new work day.” Y’all, I about burst into tears when he said that to me.

  2. I’ve been getting more involved with my church and made the decision to partner with them, which was announced at the end of the service on the 12th of the month. In our church, becoming a partner is akin to becoming a member. I think partnership is a better word anyway. We’re partners in spreading the gospel and sharing the love of Jesus with our family, friends and community. I’m fully committed to this church and ready to take on whatever the Lord sends my way.

  3. Our church moved to a larger facility and oh my the new seating is so comfy! Seriously though, this is an amazing time for us. New folks have been attending and I’m thrilled that we’re seeing more teens, college aged folks and young families walking through our doors! I changed the way I pray when it comes to having a building of our very own. Now I pray that we are good stewards of what He provides for us. You can’t run before you learn to walk.

  4. We’ve returned to playing World of Warcraft after a nearly 3 year hiatus. We played from launch in 2004 until February of 2021 before moving onto Final Fantasy 14 Online. I miss my gnomes and dwarves and decided to return. My hubby said he’d never go back but two days after I resubscribed, he told me “The joy I get out of playing an mmorpg comes from playing with my best friend, so I resubbed to WoW.” Awww, the man scored major wife cred!

  5. My beloved Aunt passed. She was a month shy of celebrating her 95th birthday. The grieving for her is different because I know she passed peacefully, and she lived an incredible life. She was my Mom’s younger sister and with her death, all four of the amazing sisters have gone home to be with the Lord and their loved ones.

There was a sudden, unexpected change in the church leadership team that was unsettling. As I write this, I can say I’m finally at peace with the change. While I’ll miss seeing the family at services and church functions, we will absolutely remain in touch. In fact, after much prayer, I reached out just the other day to invite my friend to lunch. I know what I’m writing is glossing over a lot of details but that’s intentional. Churches go through growing pains. It’s all part of this Christian journey.

If the world hates you, understand that it hated me before it hated you.

Thanksgiving 2023

Thanksgiving was wonderfully simple and drama free. I wasn’t in the mood to smoke a turkey this year, so the family went with an non-traditional meal. We love Mexican food so it was the easy choice. My oldest son made Mexican pizzas. My youngest made chicken and cheese empanadas and I made steak, shrimp and chicken tacos for tacos on my homemade tortillas. The only traditional item was the pumpkin pie, which I made in a non-traditional way. I’ve come to the realization that while I love to eat pie, I do not enjoy baking pies.

The man with the big cheesy grin, is my hubby and that smile comes from not having to work on Black Friday for the first time in 17 years! On both Thanksgiving and that Friday, we played Magic the Gathering, because it’s what we do when we get together. I made a big ole’ pot of red beans and rice for my nephew and took it to his house on Friday. His birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year. I also told him I’d bake him cupcakes and he asked for red velvet. Since I’ve never baked red velvet from scratch, I used a recipe from Preppy Kitchen and it was a huge hit.

Now if I can get my family to gather together for group pictures, holidays would be perfect. But I managed to grab a few shots that basically capture the day. By the end of the day we were all kicked back in recliners watching movies together.

December arrives in just a few days and Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. I love it so much that I decided that the majority of my crafting in 2024 will be dedicated to creating Christmas wreaths and ornaments. The last quarter of any year is always busy and I find myself falling behind when I start Christmas crafting in September. Now I can sprinkle it in and savor the time to create some unique items for family, friends and maybe even to sell. We’ll see.

This last week of November is filled with lunch with a few of my favorite people, decorating the house, planning my Christmas baking, regular Bible study and then our women’s Bible study group. Time to get a wiggle on.

Peace, love and peppermint candy canes,
