Life is Peachy
Peaches. I love them. Peach candles, peach pie, peaches with cottage cheese and peach beverages. The last category is what I’m writing about today. My favorite peach tea is from Wawa and I would still be drinking it if the dang stuff didn’t have so much sugar in it! There are 11 grams of sugar per serving! I grew up in the 60s and 70s drinking Mom’s homemade iced tea and what she called dirty tea. That’s iced tea with a couple shots of orange juice in unsweetened tea. She used a lot less sugar than most other folks. It wasn’t that she was nutritionally savvy, she was frugal. I never would have survived childhood if we lived in the South. Different strokes as they say.
I’m also a fan of hot tea. I may be American, but my British/Scottish ancestry becomes apparent when it comes to a cup of tea. I still prefer it over coffee. In fact, I didn’t start drinking coffee regularly until I was in my 40s! When all my friends were ordering cups of black coffee at the diner, I was stirring up a cup of builder’s tea before I knew what that term meant. It’s a British colloquial term for a strong cup of tea made and drank by laborers/builders.
Last week I found two peach flavored/unfused beverages that I love. Summerset Peach Herbal Tea. This little box of 20 tea bags is everything I wanted in an herbal tea. It delivers a strong peach flavor after a 5-minute brew. That’s when I add ice to the mix and create a lovely, peachy cold beverage that makes me smile. Even better, I use my Keurig to make it.
The only downside is that I bought one box. Next time I’ll buy more or cut down to one iced peach tea a day. Yeah, that just felt wrong when I typed it. I’ll buy more tea bags.
My youngest son brought a variety pack of Truly hard seltzer teas home and asked me to try one. When it comes to alcoholic drinks I’m pretty straight forward: rum, wine, mead and the only beer I drink is a lemon Radler beer by Samuel Adams called Porch Rocker. It’s my go-to beverage next to iced tea on a hot summer day.
The Truly Peach Tea hard seltzer surprised me and I’m a total fan. It earned a place in the fridge next to the Porch Rocker that’s for sure. I haven’t tried the other flavors yet because my world revolves around peach.
We’re in prep mode around here because of a BBQ we’re hosting on Sunday. I probably mentioned it in a previous post or two. A friend of the family arrived from Texas earlier today. He’s staying with my son until Sunday night, after the get together. I offered to smoke a brisket for his homecoming and he’s baking his incredibly delicious rum cake. It’s a cake that will get you drunk if you’re not careful.
None of us are careful when we eat that cake. My daughter-in-law and I inhaled it the last time he was here.
Taking the weekend off from writing because I won’t have a moment to sit. It’s time to trim the brisket and prep it for the smoker. In order to get sleep, I’m smoking the brisket tomorrow then reheating it for Sunday. I’m also smoking chicken and a few other dishes. The guests are bringing the sides. It should be a fun time and I’m praying that it doesn’t rain on Sunday because it would be great to swim as well.
Peace,
B
